Hey guys,

We're currently working on Mahjong and we need to know what the default spawn setting should be. There seemed to be many different variations, so we just need to know what you'd like to see as the default setting. Should all tiles be faced down, etc. If anyone has a good site to the traditional rules, that would be helpful as well. Perhaps some good images/illustrations of what the starting setup should be.

Another thing regarding the betting coins. How many of each should there be? Right now, we have 4 of each.

Thanks for your input!

The turtle is probably a very recognizable formation. Aren't they normally face up, or is there a memory aspect to traditional Mahjong?

This is a pretty nice layout to use and not to killer on the player, most of the computer based games of this I have played have a new layout each game.

We are making the multiplayer version of Mahjong not the solitaire one http://www.berserk-games.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

So apparently THIS (http://www.mahjonged.com/chinese_rules.html) Chinese ruleset has been the official Chinese and International rules since 2002. Not sure if it mentions initial layout.

Quite the task you guys have. There are MORE THAN 22 KNOWN VARIANTS (http://www.sloperama.com/mjfaq/mjfaq02b.html#Details) of Mahjong!

The default setting should be a setup with a wall all the way around and at least 2 dice. This would allow 2-4 players the ability to play at the start anytime. Since the player decides where to break the wall for the garden, it would be best to simply have this as the start point, with random mix throughout. This was the best setup explanation: http://www.mahjonged.com/starting_mahjong.html#making

I would love to see the following to make the game a little easier as well:
-stacking of tiles (like they do with poker chips) but no more than 2 is necessary.
-auto reveal your hand (there are 12-13 pieces that need to be revealed and would get irritating to pull each one and flip it on a 3 hour match)
-auto wall shuffle
-a point counting system for betting sticks/coins (maybe next to player names)

I also think that the pieces should be a tiny bit bigger, they seem rather small. As lexon said a two tile stack tall is good. It would be nice the have the tiles in groups of 3 for passing, 4 for dealing as well as the wall being its own group.

We've already made the tiles bigger and are working on some other things for it as well, including a spawn setup. Thanks!

Something I know me and my friends would like to see, would be a set of Red 5s for the Japanese Riichi variant of Mahjong. (One Kanji, One Bamboo, Two Dots. Literally are just Red 5s.)

I would really love to see Riichi mahjong! I bought a four-pack just for that http://www.berserk-games.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif

Doesn't seem to be difficult since it's just changing a few tiles. Or you can add a possibility to choose between possible tilesets.

Thanks!

Hello there,

initial setting of the tiles is always the "Great Wall" as stated before in various links, but there can be a difference if you play with flowers and seasons (144 tiles) or not (136 tiles).

That should be an option in initial setting.
