Is there a way to force a "save" with out physically writing a file?

Basically as the save only happens on a physical "save of the file".... if you, for example, have a variable you want saved but the object is placed inside a bag or w/e, that data is not actually saved and it will come out of the bag reset.

Is there a way to simply activate a "save" somehow?
