    What is Tabletop Simulator actually?

Tabletop simulator is indeed just a virtual table with enough physics programmed in for dice rolling, card shuffling, moving objects, etc. There are some official games you can pay for. However most of the appeal is the mods on the steam workshop. Almost every board game imaginable is there for free. Some of these were even commissioned by the devs so that people can play test and try their game (level 99 games have quite a few commissioned). However most are just made by fans and are subject to be taken down depending on if the publishers take the time to do so.

I'll also note, many of these games are scripted. Which means they'll automatically do some of the board and piece setup and turn management. It's very handy for games like gloom haven or spirit island. I know I've played Concordia on tts and I believe I've seen the others you've listed in the workshop.tweakbox appvalley https://vlc.onl/

It's just a platform to play games. In the "workshop" you can "subscribe" (which is adding the game to your Tabletop library) to any game that people have created and posted (for free). It is like playing a 3D online version of the boardgame. A lot of people complain about the controls, but once you play around with it a bit it's easy enough. You can find people to play with in different ways, such as in a chat on the Tabletop main page, exploring open games, or online such as the Reddit page. It's a fantastic way to play boardgames with friends who live far away, or test more expensive games before buying a physical copy. I haven't regretted the purchase at all!
